Inclement weather office closure

The Charleston office will remain closed due to an unresolved maintenance issue as a result of the winter storm. Thank you for your patience as our staff works to correct this issue as soon as possible!

SCDOR agents arrested an Horry County woman on Friday and charged her with four counts of tax evasion.

Leahjane Lavin, 45, of Myrtle Beach, failed to file a South Carolina Individual Income Tax return for tax years 2021-2024 after claiming an exemption from state Income Tax with her employer, according to arrest warrants. During that time, she earned in excess of $759,000 in gross income but paid nothing in state Individual Income Tax. As a result, she owes more than $43,000 in tax to the state.

If convicted, Lavin faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison and/or $10,000 in fines, plus the cost of prosecution. She is being held in the J. Reuben Long Detention Center pending a bond hearing.

If you suspect or know of anyone or a business that has committed a state tax crime, such as tax evasion or tax fraud, contact SCDOR Criminal Investigation and submit a Tax Violation Complaint Form (CID-27) to FraudAdvisor@dor.sc.gov or mail it to:
