Taxpayer Assistance Officers are the first point of contact for South Carolina’s walk-in taxpayers, helping them navigate tax requirements with confidence. In this dynamic, face-to-face role, you’ll make a meaningful impact through education and problem solving while engaging with a variety of tax topics.

If you enjoy helping others and working with detailed information, this role might be a great fit for you. As a Taxpayer Assistance Officer, you’ll provide exceptional customer service, assist with tax account adjustments, process business registrations, and review important documents like powers of attorney.  

Salary range: $41,947 - $59,500

Schedule:  

  • Onsite hours are from 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday (37.5 hours per week).

Preferred qualifications (one of the following):  

  • A bachelor’s degree OR
  • ​A high school diploma and two years of face-to-face customer service experience

Our Law Enforcement Officers play a vital role in maintaining a secure and welcoming environment at our offices. In this position, you’ll operate advanced screening equipment, patrol assigned areas, respond to emergencies, investigate incidents, and provide dispatch services. With competitive pay, ongoing training, and exceptional benefits, this is a rewarding opportunity to continue your law enforcement career in a professional, low stress setting where every day brings something new.  

Salary range: $53,300 - $66,600  

Schedule:  

  • 7.5-hour shifts between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday
  • No on-call hours; no night or weekend shifts  

Preferred qualifications:  

  • Certified or formerly certified law enforcement officer  
  • Experience performing patrol or investigative duties with a public law enforcement agency  
  • Bachelor’s degree  

Additional requirements:  

  • A valid driver’s license  
  • Currently possess Class 1 Basic Law Enforcement Certification or be able to obtain  
  • Must be physically able to lift, bend, and stand for prolonged periods of time
  • Must be able to obtain an SC Constable Commission I as required by SLED
  • May require occasional statewide travel and overnight stay

Special Agents combine law enforcement and forensic accounting to investigate financial crimes and enforce South Carolina’s tax laws. This role is perfect for detail-oriented professionals who thrive in investigative work, enjoy problem-solving, and want to make an impact through criminal tax enforcement.

As a Special Agent, you’ll investigate financial crime cases, secure evidence, interview witnesses, and assist in preparing cases for prosecution. You’ll also conduct arrests, testify in court, and provide protective services for the SCDOR. This position offers a dynamic mix of investigative and law enforcement work, with structured training alongside senior agents.  

Salary range: $61,800 - $83,400

Schedule:  

  • Work hours are 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday (37.5 hours per week).

Preferred qualifications (one of the following):  

  • A bachelor’s degree with 12 semester hours in accounting and four years of accounting, auditing, or law enforcement experience OR
  • An associate’s degree with 12 semester hours in accounting and six years of accounting, auditing, or law enforcement experience OR 
  • A high school diploma and eight years of accounting, auditing, or law enforcement experience

Additional requirements:  

  • Valid driver’s license.  
  • Must be able to pass a credit check, psychological evaluation, reading comprehension test, and a medical screening.  
  • Will be required to attend and successfully complete the basic law enforcement certification program at the SC Criminal Justice Academy if not already certified.  
  • Must be able to obtain a SC Constable Commission I, as required by SLED.
