Alcohol servers and managers - the deadline to complete alcohol server training has been extended to May 1, 2026.

Anyone who works at least 10 hours a week serving alcohol for on-premises consumption and managers who oversee alcohol service must complete an approved server training program by May 1, 2026 or within 30 days of employment.

This training requirement is a result of a state law passed in 2025.

The SCDOR is required by law to review all alcohol server training programs and determine if they meet the standards set by law for approval. Program providers can submit all training programs to ABL@dor.sc.gov. By law, after a training program provider has submitted their training program to the SCDOR, we have 60 days to approve or deny the program.

Approved server training programs

The following server training programs are approved under the requirements of SC Code Section 61-3-120(B). All programs are available online in both English and Spanish. You must complete one of the approved training programs below to receive an SCDOR Alcohol Server Certificate if you:

work 10 or more hours per week serving alcohol for on-premises consumption
or
are a manager that oversees alcohol service.

Certification

DOWNLOAD YOUR CERTIFICATE

Immediately after successfully completing the training, servers will receive an alcohol server certificate number. Program providers have 10 days to submit this information to the SCDOR.
Servers can view and download their alcohol server certificate by visiting dor.sc.gov/AlcoholServerCertificate and entering their name and server certificate number.
Your alcohol server certificate should be issued within 2 weeks of you passing an approved training program.
Servers must maintain a digital or physical copy of their SCDOR issued certificate with them while serving alcohol. This is not the same certificate or other documents you may receive from your program provider after completing training.
Licensees must maintain on their premises a digital or physical copy of each server’s SCDOR issued certificate for the duration of the server’s employment.
Licensees must pay a $100 per violation penalty for servers who fail to maintain or produce a copy of an SCDOR issued alcohol server certificate.

The training programs below are approved for employees who are in violation of ABL laws and regulations and must complete a recognized training program. (SC Code Sections 61-4-50(C) and 61-6-4080(C)).
